NFL Feats and Fumbles: Week 6 Review

Written on October 21, 2011 at 03:44, by HTTN

What’s going to happen with the 0-6 Colts and the 0-5 Dolphins? Our NFL Insider Geoff Lowe tackles week 6, including the trade deadline.

Feats

Belichick + Brady = Unstoppable

With the Patriots’ last second win over the Cowboys on Sunday Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are now tied with the most wins by a coach and quarterback tandem. They have 115 wins together.

The duo they matched? Dan Marino and Don Shula.

Brady and Belichick have played 148 games together, meaning they’ve lost 33. Shula and Marino lost 68 games before they could win 115.

Play of the Week: Dez Bryant

This catch by Dez Bryant is the play of the week. It’s rare to see someone make two defensive players collapse with one juke move. Watch it. There’s no need to say anything else.

Fumbles

Miami Has No Hope

Since Dan Marino retired in 1999 the Dolphins have gone through more starting quarterbacks than any other team. Matt Moore became Miami’s 16th after starting Monday night against the Jets.

The problem to me is instability at the head coach position. They’ve gone through 5 since Marino retired. With an 0-5 start this year, it looks as if that will continue and Tony Sparano will soon be out the door.

Disaster in Indy

The Indianapolis Colts have not gone 0-6 since 1997.

The year after, they drafted Peyton Manning. Since then, they missed the playoffs once – in Manning’s rookie year.

This year’s 0-6 start could be the beginning of a new era just like last time. The Colts will be in the running for Stanford QB Andrew Luck in this year’s draft. Experts are predicting him to be the next Manning.

Maybe the Colts should try to build a team that can survive their starting quarterback going down. Just saying…

Trade Deadline Analysis

Lloyd Moves From One Bad Team To Another

Brandon Lloyd, last year’s leading receiver with 1448 yards, was traded from the Broncos to the Rams for a 2012 fifth round draft pick.

Lloyd goes from a team with one win to a team with none. He is however being reunited with Rams’ offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels who was head coach of the Broncos during his best year in the NFL.

Many expect Lloyd to take some pressure off the Rams’ other starting receiver, Mark Clayton. But with quarterback Sam Bradford out for up to 6 weeks, it may take a while for their offense to have any type of consistency.

In the end, the trade doesn’t mean much.

Raiders Make Move for Palmer

In the biggest deadline deal in recent memory, Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer was sent to the Oakland Raiders for a 2012 first round pick and a 2013 conditional pick.

Oakland’s quarterback Jason Campbell went down with a broken collarbone on Sunday and the team needed to make a quick move to replace him.

Palmer, who was locked-out by Bengals owner Mike Brown after he demanded a trade last season, looked like he may never take another snap in the NFL. As recently as Tuesday morning, Brown was saying there was no chance Palmer would be traded.

By 4 p.m. that same day, Palmer was a Raider.

It’s a great trade for the Bengals as they already have a good young quarterback in rookie Andy Dalton and the two draft picks will help them build.

Oakland’s fate is in the hands of Palmer, who was a top-5 quarterback before suffering a devastating knee injury during the 2005 playoffs.

If Palmer plays like he did back then, the Raiders will look good. If not, well…
