An Open Letter to The Morons Who Started the “Henrik is Captain” Rumours:

Dear Idiots,

I don’t know who you are, but you certainly do. You’re the people who tweeted on Tuesday morning that Henrik Sedin was going to be named captain of the Canucks. Oh, I know what you based it on. You read Brad Ziemer’s post on the Puck World blog on Monday, in which he stated:

“I’d be willing to bet a few sheckles that Henrik Sedin, the team’s first Hart Trophy winner, will be the new Canuck captain.”

In case you don’t understand English, he’s saying, he thinks it will be Sedin. It is his opinion, not fact!

Ziemer also wrote:

“I can’t imagine he wouldn’t welcome passing on the captaincy to Henrik.”

Which @NHLSourcesSay later interpereted as: “Henrik Sedin to be named new Canucks captain, Luongo not taking it in a bad way.”

Do you even see what’s happening here? Ziemer, in his expert opinion (which I certainly would not argue with) believes the captaincy will be passed. He hasn’t received any word from management stating that this is the case, and he hasn’t claimed that it is a fact. He simply wrote his thoughts in a blog post.

But you want to be the first to break the news, don’t you? “I called it!” Look, morons, I have no problem with you calling it, but don’t act like your call is a fact, that’s all I’m saying.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. There are other idiots too. Like the one who tweeted this: “Ohh finally, Henrik Sedin is #Canucks new captain. Haha oh Luongo.” And another who tweeted this: “HAHA Luongo loses C,” in reaction to the original “breaking news.”

People, if Luongo does pass the captaincy on to one of his teammates, he is not “losing” the captaincy. We are talking about a gold medal winning goaltender who has worn the C for the Canucks for 2 seasons, while the two current leaders took their time to emerge. He certainly does not deserve to be mocked or laughed at for putting the team first by choosing to focus more on his game than on being a captain.

And the rest of you, retweeting everything you see: before believing all tweets containing a #Canucks tag in it, please, check the source. If it doesn’t originate from one of the Canucks’ beat writers, or a reliable news source who works closely with the team, chances are it’s not fact.
