One day into Alain Vigneault’s extension…

Canucks’ head coach talks… a lot

By now, you probably know that Kurt Overhardt, Ryan Kesler’s agent, has fired back against Alain Vigneault’s comments stating that Kesler should not use his shoulder injury as an excuse for diminished results this past season.

“I am not a doctor, I’m a lawyer, but after having conversations with the player and with the club, anyone who thinks this injury did not affect his play must have fallen off a turnip truck.” – Kurt Overhardt (Kesler’s agent)

Note: this quote is from The Province‘s interview with Overhardt, but just so you know, News 1130 was the first to break the Overhardt news, as they made sure to point out:

@News1130Sports: “Told you 1st an hour ago that Kesler and his agent not impressed with Vigneault’s comments.”

Yes you did. And if the Province’s twitter account is run by the same person who runs yours, he’ll tweet “But our quote is better, so there!”

Anyway, aren’t AV’s comment’s on Kesler’s injury eerily similar to the ones where he called out Cody Hodgson, saying his back injury should not be used as an excuse?

From what I recall, that situation didn’t turn out so well…

Hopefully Kesler won’t be as put out by Vigneault’s comments as Hodgson was, or AV’s talking may be even more costly to the Canucks in his second contract with the team.

AV on Luongo

You’ve probably also heard that Vigneault wasn’t done there. While Mike Gillis has been saying there’s a distinct possibility Roberto Luongo could be back next year, AV couldn’t help but sabotage his GM’s message by telling TVA Sports that Luongo wants out of Vancouver.

You can read the original TVA Sports post in French, or The Stanchion’s analysis.

Clause for Gillis to add to AV’s next contract extension:

“The signee shall open his mouth in front of microphones or TV cameras only to chew gum, have throat lozenges or laugh hysterically.”
